The General Overseer of the Believers’ House of Worship International, Reverend Abraham Lamptey believes that some works of the arts carry spiritual powers.
According by to him, one could be spiritually affected by listening to certain songs.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, the pastor and gospel musician said “the enemy is roaring like a lion looking for who to devour. So if you look devour-able it will devour you.”
He explained that whatever happens to the consumer of a work of art depends on how spiritually protected they are or otherwise.
“If you are vulnerable you are devour-able,” he noted.
Reverend Lamptey further stated how a Ghanaian song which had not substance in its lyrical content surprisingly became an instant hit in the country and beyond.
“I remember a song came and strangely it was all over the place. And when you listen it does make any sense. But it was all over the place. But guess what, my children will tell their friends ‘you will not sing this song in our house.’ So they know the energy that my house entertains. So you should know yourself and know that this cannot get into me,” he said.
Asked if there are songs that can get people possessed, he answered with an emphatic “yes.”
“Have you attended a rock show before? Watch it and see people being possessed by bad spirit,” he added.
This comment came on the back of a discussion on the role of spirituality in the arts.
Other members of the panel were traditionalist Nana Adu Boafo Junior and spiritual analyst Nana Ayeboafo Jnana.
Showbiz A-Z airs on Joy 99.7 FM on Saturdays from 2pm to 6pm.
