Ghana international Felix Afena-Gyan has described his maiden season with US Cremonese as being a 'tough' one due to the challenges he faced.

Afena-Gyan joined the club ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season, ending his stay with AS Roma after a successful season the campaign before.

The 20-year-old joined Cremomese, who had just been promoted to the Serie A, in search of game time but found opportunities very limited.

In an interview with Saddick Adams, the forward explained what was a difficult season for him.

"It was a very tough season for me because I couldn't meet my targets. How I planned to face [the season], I couldn't make it," he said.

"My goal was to be part of the top scorers and get some number of goals but unfortunately it couldn't happen so it was very tough."

Afena-Gyan made just seven league starts during the 2022/23 campaign and made a further 16 off the bench, averaging 35 minutes per game.

He failed to score or assist in the league but was key to his side's progress in the Coppa Italia where he scored two goals in five appearances.

Before moving to Cremonese, the youngster spent a year with Roma after playing for EurAfrica Football Club in Ghana.

Speaking on how the move happened, he said: "I will say it was hard work and prayers because it's not easy to move from here [Ghana] to make it in Europe."

"[What made it difficult at the start] was the language because I didn't know anything about Italy. They were speaking their language and I couldn't understand. I guess that was the only challenge."

Afena-Gyan started at Roma with the youth team before making his debut for the senior team in October 2021, going on to score his first two goals the following month.
