The 8th edition of Destination Legon, a tourism exhibition organised by the Department of Marketing & Entrepreneurship of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), presents students the challenge of applying the opportunities offered by the digital space to create tourism and hospitality experiences for the potential tourists.
The event is scheduled to take place on the July 6-7, 2023 on the main campus of the University of Ghana includes a tour of the University campus and also the exhibition by students from both the under graduate and as post graduate students to display their innovations by applying digital concepts and tools such as Quick Response (QR) Coding, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Block Chain Technology (BCT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create tourism, hospitality and events products and services.
Professor Kobby Mensah, Associate Professor of Marketing and Convener of Destination Legon in an interview said the event has over the year’s contributed to the tourism sector in diverse ways as students bring to the fore innovative ways industry players can improve their services and products.
“The event has over the years brought together academia and players within the tourism sector to discuss areas of mutual interest and this has positively impacted the sector”.
He reiterated the fact that the tourism sector remains a major sector with the potential to create millions of jobs and also bring about economic transformation.
According to Prof. Mensah, this year’s activities includes a tour of Legon Campus on the July 6, 2023 and the conference and exhibition on the July 7, 2023, which will be attended by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism AuthorityAkwasi Agyeman with the Dean of the UGBS , Prof. Justice Bawole as the Host and the Chairman of the occasion will be the Head of the Marketing Department at the UGBS , Prof. Bedman Narteh.
The exhibition will also be attended by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ghana Tourism
Development Company (GTDC), members of Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) and Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF), Tourism Society of Ghana, and Hoteliers Association of Ghana.
The exhibition will be used to climax the annual UGBS management week celebrations.
