A 19-year-old man in China reportedly ended up with a hole in his lung while screaming his heart out at a concert of his favorite idol group.
A young man from Shenzhen, China, recently suffered a pneumothorax, also known as a ‘collapsed lung’, while screaming loudly during a concert of his favorite idol group.
Chinese media reported that the 19-year-old was enthusiastically screaming during the band’s performance when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. he started experiencing difficulty breathing almost immediately and ended up passing out. The unnamed youth was taken to the emergency room of a Shenzen hospital where doctors concluded that he had suffered an alveolar rupture in one of his lungs due to screaming with excessive force during the concert.
Pneumothorax is an abnormal collection of air in the pleural space between the lung and the chest wall. It can occur due to blunt or penetrating chest injury, damage from underlying lung disease, or alveolar ruptures due to sudden or severe pressure. The latter is suspected to have been the cause in the young Chinese man’s case, as he admitted to shouting his heart out during the concert.
Doctors were able to remove the excess air and relieve pressure on his collapsed lung, and the 19-year-old is reportedly well on his way to a full recovery.
Interestingly, this is not the first time a fan has suffered a collapsed lung during a concert. Back in 2017, Western media reported the bizarre case of a young woman who suffered a pneumothorax because of screaming during a One Direction concert.

In the past, we’ve written about people suffering from collapsed lungs while doing karaoke and performing their usual morning stretches, so it’s something that can occur unexpectedly while doing all sorts of common activities.
