The National Film Authority (NFA) of Ghana will be hosting the maiden Africa Cinema Summit from November 14-16, 2023 at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.
The Africa Cinema Summit is a platform that brings together stakeholders from the cinema industry across Africa to highlight the peculiarities in the African cinema space as well as the challenges and the numerous opportunities the industry offers.
It is also aimed at creating a compelling and conducive avenue for participants to network, foster partnerships, generate leads and possibly close deals during the event and thereafter.
According to Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority and a convener of the summit, if film stakeholders don't find a way to get the largest youth population into the cinemas, Africa will not be the only loser, major businesses may collapse and a great culture of going to the cinema may be lost to the world forever, depriving the world of the magic of cinema.
"It is an exciting time for me to work to help open up the cinema experience to the many Africans that deserve and want the experience as well as help throw the spotlight on Africa, whiles bringing some clarity for the business globally,' she has said.
Speakers for the event include John Michael Schreiner, Senior Vice President of Theatre Development, Imax Corp, Europe, Middle East, and Africa; Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, CEO of the National Film Authority of Ghana; Moses Babatope, Co-founder and Deputy Managing Director of Filmhouse Group and Funmi Onuma, Country Manager of Silverbird Cinema, Ghana.
