Deputy Finance Minister says the government has taken steps to ensure that the 2024 budget does not allow for election overspending.
The Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, speaking in Parliament recounted that governments in the past years exploited the national budget for political capital.
According to her, this will not happen under the current regime adding that the current government is dedicating itself to robust fiscal consolidation modalities to avoid derailing the ongoing stabilization efforts.
“Government have used election years as auctioning periods engaging in all kinds of projects to win votes. But this government is committing itself to strong fiscal consolidation and efficient management of existing commitment in order not to derail the hard wall stability that we are witnessing,” she said on Tuesday, November 21.
She stated that the government’s decision to refrain from initiating new commercial loan-funded projects highlights its commitment to living within its means.
“As part of this commitment, government is not initiating new commercial loan-funded projects. And so when you check appendix 10(c) where we usually have our commercial loan-funded project, that place is blank.”
