Some residents of the Asutifi South District in the Ahafo Region, say they will not be able to participate in the upcoming district assembly elections due to the cost of transportation.
In an interview with Adom News and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) staff, some residents explained that they cannot afford to travel to other communities to vote, as the cost of transportation is high.
“I won’t go and vote because where I come from is far and I don’t even have money for transportation so as for me I won’t go," one resident said.
“If I get lorry fare, I will go and vote. The person I want to vote for is a very good person but because I do not have money to pay for transportation, I won’t go,” another added.
Meanwhile, the NCCE Director in Asutifi South, Georgina Agyeiwaa, explained that many people in the district are no longer interested in participating in the assembly elections because they feel their expectations have not been met.
She still encouraged residents to vote, emphasising that it was the only way to elect leaders who would develop their community and meet their expectations.
“A lot of people do not want to vote because their expectations have not been met so a lot of them are discouraged to vote. But we have explained to them that this election is the only way they can choose good leaders who will help develop the community."
