The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (GCYE), Sherif Ghali, has appealed to the government through the National Development Commission to establish a National Young Entrepreneurs Fund to support the industrialisation agenda of the country.
He entreated the Commission to make it mandatory for successive governments to make adequate allocations to the fund, to support young entrepreneurs nurture their businesses.
Speaking at the 4th Annual National Young Entrepreneurs Summit, Expo and Awards ceremony in Ho, he said establishing the Fund will ensure a sustainable approach to harnessing the potential of young individuals through strategic financial commitments.
He urged the government to shift its focus from merely empowering the youth to actively investing in their potential.
"There is a clear difference between empowering young people and investing in them. Investing in the youth involves a deliberate action in letting them have access to the funding they need and also providing them with infrastructural support", Mr. Ghali explained.
He identified the shift from empowerment to investment as a holistic and proactive strategy, which would not only harness the potential of the youth but also create an environment that enables them to thrive.
"Without being deliberate to invest in the youth we wouldn’t go anywhere as a country," Mr. Ghali passionately stated.
Miss Diana Barlo, one of the participants and a young entrepreneur expressed her joy over the programme stating, "this programme is a great platform for entrepreneurs to network, and going to my community I would advise people to make good use of I.T. and social media to their benefit.”
