Chris Hughton says a decision about Mohammed Kudus' involvement in Ghana's game against Egypt will be made on Thursday.
The midfielder missed the Black Stars game against Cape Verde after failing to be fit in time for the Africa Cup of Nations opener.
Kudus was reported to have picked up a knock before returning to camp ahead of the tournament. He trained once with the group before the trip to Abidjan for the competition.
Black Stars' communications director Henry Asante Twum assured the player would be fit for the game against the Pharaohs.
However, the team's head coach is still uncertain whether the player will feature in the second group game.
"We will continue to assess Mohammed Kudus. He has trained the last few days," the Irish trainer said.
"We will assess him [on Wednesday] and [Thursday] and make a decision [on Thursday before the game]."
The 23-year-old is still hoping to make his AFCON debut for Ghana after missing the competition two years ago due to injury while playing for Ajax.
