The recently-established Apagya Senior High School in the Ashanti region is facing significant logistical challenges, particularly with transportation.
The lack of a school bus and poor road network force students and staff to endure daily treks through dusty paths.
Headmaster of the school, Michael Nti, is appealing to authorities to address these critical setbacks hindering the school's operations.
The Apagya Community Day Senior High School in the Adansi South District, started admitting its first batch of students in April 2023.
This was after the activation of a modern dormitory block for both boys and girls for full operations.
The school, currently with eight hundred and seventy students, is in need of mobility logistics.
Headmaster, Michael Nti, disclosed that the school’s management is often compelled to rent a bus for routine transportation.
“Whenever there are national activities we find it difficult to convey the students to such activities. The only option is to hire a bus for the students, and for daily routine to pick our foodstuff for the school. We need the logistics to operate,” he said.
Michael Nti added that the setbacks are multifaceted, and include encroachment of the school’s lands.
He is appealing to the government and stakeholders to urgently turn their attention to the facility.
“Most of the lands around the school belong to individuals and there are a lot of litigations claims. People come to the school to farm which disturbs studies. We are pleading with the government to come to our aid so the lands of the E-block can be put to use,” he said.
Michael Nti made these comments during the first year of matriculation and naming of the school’s dormitory blocks and its houses.
At the back of this, the Ashanti Regional Coordinator for Free SHS, Charles Owusu, is assuring of the government’s commitment to equip the school to function effectively.
“We are committed to better education in this school, including adding STEM education. We hope to make Apagya Senior High one of the best schools in Ashanti region,” he said.
