The New Patriotic Party is demanding the prosecution of a former Sports Minister who has been indicted by the Auditor General for his alleged role in the massive GYEEDA scandal that cost the country almost a billion cedis.
Mr. Humado had until now been left untouched and had in fact testified in court against his subordinate, Mr. Abuga Pele.
Abuga Pele has been insisting that he is being used as a scapegoat in a trial the Minority has also described as a “Kangaroo” trial.
The Chiana-Paga MP is facing six counts of wilfully causing financial loss to the state under Section 179A (3) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), to the tune of GH¢3,330,568.53; two counts of abetment under Sections 20(1) and 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and one count of intentionally misapplying public property, contrary to Section 1(2) of the Public Property Protection Act, 1977 (SMCD 140).
But with revelations about Humado’s role made official in the Auditor-General’s 2013 report, the NPP MP on Finance Committee of Parliament says the truest test of President Mahama’s commitment to fighting corruption has arrived.
NPP MP New Juaben South MP, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah said the continued court trial of Mr. Pele and not Humado convinces him that the President’s corruption fight is at best a ‘joke”.
"This is a joke. Let the president show that he is ready to fight corruption" he maintained.
Humado despite advice against signing a contract with Better Ghana Management services, signed away about GH₵240million which did not represent value for money.
The Auditor-General said in its report "we further recommend that the National Coordinator and other approving authorities should be sanctioned for not exercising the necessary budgetary control in line with the above stated regulation. They should be held accountable for justification of the amount released..."
New Juaben South MP, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah has also expressed his disappointment in government for not doing enough to get ZEERA group, Jospong Group and the AGAMS group to cough up over GH₵ 55.1million in interest-free loans as recommended in a damning report into the workings of the Ghana.
The gang of three are leading culprits in a scandal that destroyed Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA). ZEERA group owes about GH₵7,435,131 while AGAMS owes GH₵42,268,520 million.
GYEEDA is now rebranded as the Youth Employment Agency.
