President of Ghana Athletics, Bawa Fuseini, has revealed the country “will request to host” the 2026 Senior African Athletics Championship.
This comes after the successful hosting of track and field events at the African Games at Legon Stadium.
The government spent $34 million on the renovation and completion of the facility prior to the Games.
"[Legon athletic track] is one in its kind in Africa. Only Botswana and Kenya have this, even Morocco doesn't have this one,” Bawa told JoySports.
"My prayer is that we should be able to keep it for a foreseeable future. We should be able to keep it good in two, three years’ time that we can request to host African championships, that is our next big thing we want to do.”
Should Ghana successfully bid for and obtain the rights, it will be the first time the country is hosting the continental event.
Mauritius hosted the last edition in 2022 while the upcoming edition comes off in Cameroon.
