It's been 25 years of peaceful reign in Asanteman and beyond as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II marks his silver jubilee as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool.
Several events have been held throughout the week to celebrate the Asantehene's silver jubilee.
According to the Otumfuo Manwerehene, Dr Baffour Osei Hyeaman Brantuo VI, the process of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II becoming the Asantehene was not an easy one.
He said that the emergence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as the Asantehene was complicated but despite the challenges, the kingmakers remained loyal to Otumfuo and supported him throughout the process.
“Enstooling a king is not easy. We are part of those who enstooled the current King. All we did was to go to the queen mother who provided us access. Before then, there was so much politics at play. But we had good advise from our elders not to be bribed into accepting gifts to influence the process.”
“We rejected all gifts including Pajeros and insisted on going with the queen mother's choice.”
Today, April 26, 2024, marks the 25th Anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's reign as the Asantehene.
The silver jubilee celebration at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, attracted people from diverse backgrounds to experience the beauty of culture and tradition.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II welcomed traditional leaders and royalty from across Ghana and neighbouring West African countries.
Also gracing the special festival were royal officials and representatives from various ethnic groups residing in Asanteman.
“Today’s gathering is to showcase that the Ashanti are tolerant and love every human being. We have lived with a lot of people. Today, we are all living together in the region.”
Representatives of the Zongo community stressed the importance of respecting and paying homage to the Asantehene.
They noted that in the Zongo communities, people have always demonstrated their loyalty and reverence towards the King.
