Individuals living with lupus face a myriad of challenges as they navigate life with a chronic autoimmune disease.
Gloria Araba Dennis, began experiencing symptoms of lupus at just 10 years old. Initially misdiagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, it wasn't until she experienced a major flare-up in 2008, during her final year of secondary school, that doctors correctly identified lupus as the culprit.
Despite the challenges, including interruptions to her education and frequent hospitalisations, Dennis persevered with the support of her faith and family. She recalls instances of attending exams while sick, demonstrating remarkable resilience.

Managing lupus requires constant vigilance. Dennis, who experiences kidney and joint involvement, emphasizes the importance of medication, regular doctor visits, and lifestyle adjustments. Stress, sunlight, and certain foods are known triggers for flare-ups, prompting her to prioritize self-care and stress management.
In a recent interview with Nortey Dua on Ultimate Health on Joyfm, Dennis shed light on the financial and social toll of living with lupus. Many individuals with lupus struggle with job loss, strained relationships, and navigating healthcare systems.
Despite the challenges, Dennis remains hopeful and proactive in managing her condition. Through awareness, education, and support networks, she aims to improve the quality of life for herself and others living with lupus.
As Dennis reflects on her 20-year journey, she stands as a testament to resilience and determination in the face of chronic illness. Her story serves as inspiration for those navigating similar challenges, offering hope and encouragement for the road ahead.
