The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has announced a temporary drop in the volume of gas available for transportation, attributed to ongoing maintenance works by one of its gas producers in Nigeria.
The affected producer, responsible for a significant portion of the natural gas transported by WAPCo from Nigeria, has initiated a three-week shutdown of its facility to perform necessary maintenance.
This shutdown has decreased gas supply for WAPCo to transport to its customers in Togo, Benin, and Ghana.
WAPCo emphasised that this reduction is beyond its control.
Despite this setback, WAPCo continues to ensure gas transportation from the Western Region of Ghana to Tema, maintains a steady supply within the country.
The company anticipates a return to normal gas volumes following the completion of the maintenance activities in Nigeria.
WAPCo owns and operates the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), a critical regional infrastructure that connects natural gas resources to customers with a growing demand for cleaner and more efficient energy in the West African sub-region, particularly in Ghana.
The WAGP is a bi-directional pipeline system, facilitating gas supply from the pipeline network's east (Nigeria) and west (Ghana).
The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) is dedicated to operating and maintaining the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). This regional infrastructure plays a vital role in meeting the increasing energy demands of West Africa by providing a reliable supply of natural gas, contributing to the region's economic growth and environmental sustainability.
