Former President Donald Trump was rushed off stage after loud bangs were heard and he fell to the ground at the start of a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday night.
The Secret Service says Trump is safe and under protective measures. A spokesperson said Trump is “fine” and referred to the incident as a “heinous act,” but details on what exactly happened remain sparse.
Trump was swarmed by agents on stage after the bangs were heard. Blood could be seen on his face, and he raised a fist to the crowd as he was rushed away.
This incident came after a busy day of campaigning for both Trump and President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential race.
Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro on Saturday condemned political violence and said he’s been briefed on the incident at Donald Trump’s rally.
“Violence targeted at any political party or political leader is absolutely unacceptable,” Shapiro posted to X.
“It has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States. I have been briefed on the situation. @PAStatePolice are on the scene in Butler County and working with our federal and local partners.”
