Scientists at Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAIL) have created an Artificial Intelligence (AI) application to enhance the existing support systems for victims of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
This application, upon completion and approval by the relevant ministries, will minimize the need for direct human interaction, allowing victims to express themselves confidently and access support.
Speaking at an engagement event in Kumasi to gather further ideas, inputs, and feedback, Gender Inclusivity Officer at RAIL, Dr. Rita Udor, mentioned that an existing system called the ‘Boame App’ was not functioning properly.
Through engagements with relevant stakeholders, the project team found ways to enhance the operation of the ‘Boame App’ with the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Representatives of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, Departments of Children, Gender, NGOs and KNUST Counselling Centre were present to share ideas on ways to make the system better.
Dr. Udor is hopeful that AI would enhance the support services available for victims in Ghana.
