The grand finale of the 2024 Ms. Geek Ghana competition took place over the weekend at the Accra City Hotel, where Biana Bubune emerged as the winner.
Launched in 2019, the Ms. Geek Ghana program has positively impacted numerous young women across the country, encouraging them to pursue careers in technology.
This year’s competition attracted 66 applications from girls aged 13 to 21, highlighting the growing interest in technology among young Ghanaian women.
After a rigorous selection process, 10 finalists were chosen to present their innovative projects, which ranged from e-waste management solutions to healthcare innovations.

Notable projects included Richardson Elorm’s “E-Waste Evolution,” Leticia Makafui Ahiamadzi’s environmental risk management system, and Hannibel Opokuwaa Nyarko’s “MumCare Connect,” a mobile app designed to support maternal and child health.
The finalists’ dedication and creativity were praised by the sector Minister, who urged them to continue pushing the boundaries of technology.
As the overall winner, Biana Bubune received a cash prize and a fully funded trip to represent Ghana at the Ms. Geek Africa contest in 2025.
This opportunity will allow her to showcase her project on a continental stage, competing with other brilliant minds from across Africa.
The event concluded with great excitement as the young innovators looked forward to making a lasting impact on Ghana’s technology landscape, inspired by the success of previous winners like Sellasie Domi-Kuwonu, the reigning Ms. Geek Africa.

Speaking during the program, Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, highlighted the critical role of gender equality in the tech industry.
She praised the young female innovators who participated, emphasizing the competition’s significance as a platform for empowering women in technology.
Madam Owusu-Ekuful reiterated the government’s commitment to nurturing young talent in the tech industry, noting that the Ms Geek Ghana competition has evolved into a powerful platform that empowers women to address socio-economic challenges through innovation.
The Minister called for continued efforts to create a future where gender is no barrier in the tech industry, urging everyone to support the next generation of female tech leaders.
In her remarks, Biana Bubune expressed her gratitude to the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, the Ministry’s staff, and her fellow contestants for their support throughout the competition.
