Leader of the political movement, the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, has pledged to revamp the country's railway system if elected as the next president.
He announced a plan to build a comprehensive railway network exceeding 8,000 kilometers.
To achieve this, Bediako emphasized the importance of utilising Ghana's iron ore resources, particularly from the Eastern Region, to manufacture steel domestically.
He made this disclosure during the policy launch on September 1.
"Our vision is to develop a comprehensive railway network exceeding 8,000 kilometers that is 1.5 million tonnes of steel,” he stated.
He noted that this approach would save billions of dollars that would otherwise be spent on foreign contracts.
Mr Bediako highlighted the strategic significance of building the Eastern and Western corridors and extending the railway to the country's borders with Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast.
According to him, when the railway trucks reach the borders of the neighbouring country, the government of the country would be responsible for continuing.
He further expressed confidence that Ghanaians having the skills, resources, and industrial capacity would be contracted by the neighbouring countries to carry out this ambitious project.
"This vision represents a new transportation and logistical pathway, moving beyond the colonial roads built for us. We are creating our own path to distribute our goods," he said.
