The Electoral Commission (EC) has had a busy day on Monday, September 6.
The Commissioner, Jean Mensa, welcomed several presidential candidates who thronged her office to officially submit their nomination forms.
So far, Samuel Apea-Danquah of Yellow Ghana, independent candidate George Twum Barima Adu, businessman Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force, and Dr. Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC) have submitted their nominations.
After submitting his nomination, Dr. Hassan Ayariga reflected on the removal of former EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei, claiming vindication for his past criticism of her tenure.
Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo also filed his nomination.
He said, “I was vindicated by my statement against her, and that’s why she is no longer the EC Chair. We are here to support any Commissioner to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.”
Earlier in the day, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, also submitted his nomination forms.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by his wife, Samira Bawumia, his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and his wife, Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh.
Additionally, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), filed the presidential nomination for the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama.
During the filing, Asiedu Nketia commended the EC for making the nomination process more accessible.
