The Achimota Golf Club came alive on Saturday, September 21, 2024, as Frederick Semenu Duvour and Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah emerged the big winners at the 2024 MTN Invitational Golf Tournament. The prestigious event marked the first competition of the year’s edition and attracted golfers from various clubs across the country, who delivered remarkable performances.
In the Men’s Group A, Fred Semenu Duvour clinched the top spot with an impressive handicap of 12 and 40 points. Justin B. C. Butah followed closely with a 10 handicap and 38 points, while Solomon Allotey secured third place with a 10 handicap and 37 points.
On the women’s side, Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah triumphed in the Ladies Group A, scoring 44 points with a 14 handicap. Catherine Fabbi took the runner-up position with a commendable performance.
In the Men’s Group B, Simron Oberoi topped the leaderboard with a 19 handicap and 43 points. Walid Zoobi and Kevin Amedoh took second and third positions with 41 and 38 points, respectively. Sheryl Afia Afari emerged victorious in the Ladies Group B, scoring 45 points with a 28 handicap, while Marlene Tonyigah came in second.

In the seniors’ division, Hajia Zenabu Sulemana and Chris Apau-Opong shared honors, highlighting the competitive spirit of the tournament. For the auxiliary prizes, Simron Oberoi won the Longest Drive for the men on Hole 15, while Floria Hurtubise took the prize for the ladies. Closest to the Pin on Hole 18 was won by Philip Paekes for the men, and Letitia Amponsah-Mensah for the women. All the winners were awarded fantastic prizes from MTN in recognition of their outstanding performances.
The tournament wasn’t just about the competition—it also served as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between MTN and the Achimota Golf Club. MTN’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Ms. Adwoa Wiafe, addressed the participants, expressing the company’s delight in hosting the event. She highlighted the parallels between the game of golf and the world of business, emphasizing the importance of strategy, skill, and camaraderie, which are essential in both fields.
“We are excited that you did not just show up to play but also to reignite the strong and collaborative relationships we have cultivated over the years,” Ms. Wiafe remarked. She further assured the golfers that MTN would continue innovating to meet the ever-changing needs of its customers, including its support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through products like Y’elloBiz, which offers technology solutions to boost business efficiency.
Ms. Wiafe also used the platform to announce MTN’s celebration of 15 years of MobileMoney service, noting that the company remains committed to improving the lives of its customers through innovation. She encouraged all participants to nominate heroes for the ongoing MTN Heroes of Change Season 7, where winners would be awarded GHC100,000 to reinvest in their community projects.
The event was attended by several notable personalities, including Board Members of Scancom Plc and the President of the Achimota Golf Club. With exceptional performances and strong camaraderie, the 2024 MTN Invitational Golf Tournament set a high bar for future events, celebrating not only the spirit of competition but also the enduring relationships built on and off the course.
