The 2024 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is gearing up for an electrifying finale, with three of the finalist schools — Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO), Mfantsipim School, and St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) — competing for the coveted trophy.
Here is a profile of the contenders:
Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO)
Location: Keta, Volta Region
NSMQ Journey: KETASCO burst into the limelight with a spectacular run to the 2021 finals, earning admiration for their resilience. Though they narrowly missed victory then, their performance fueled their ambition to bring the trophy to the Volta Region for the first time.

Known for their consistency and focus, KETASCO aims to make history this year by becoming the first Volta Region School to win the NSMQ.
They have been four-time semifinalists in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023, two-time finalists, and are currently the reigning champions in the Volta—Oti Zonal Championship.
Mfantsipim School
Location: Cape Coast, Central Region

Legacy: As two-time NSMQ champions, Mfantsipim, popularly called "Botwe," is no stranger to high-pressure competitions. This year, they powered through tough challenges, including a dramatic win over Prempeh College in the semi-finals hoping to send the trophy home.
With the 2024 final in sight, Mfantsipim is hungry for a third championship to cement its place among the top schools in the history of the NSMQ from 1999 and 2004
They were a one-time second runner-up in 2016 and a one-time first runner-up in 2020 and made four appearances at the finals in 1999, 2014, 2000, and 2016.
St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO)
Location: Cape Coast, Central Region
NSMQ Record: AUGUSCO is also in pursuit of its third NSMQ title, having clinched it twice in the past in 2007 and 2019. Their victory over Wesley Girls in the semi-finals showcased their tenacity and strategic brilliance.

With Cape Coast rivals Mfantsipim also in the final, AUGUSCO is determined to assert their dominance and restore their name as champions once again.
They are also Champion in West Africa NSMQ, and made two appearances at the finals in 2007 and 2019.
A Clash of Giants
The 2024 final promises to be an unforgettable contest, with two Cape Coast powerhouses facing off against the rising force of KETASCO.
This year’s final is particularly intriguing due to the absence of reigning giants like Presec-Legon and Prempeh College, opening the door for a fresh champion to emerge.
The stage is set, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Will KETASCO break new ground for the Volta Region? Or will one of the Cape Coast schools secure a third title and solidify their legacy? All eyes will be on the grand finale to find out.
