The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), celebrated its 16th graduation ceremony on Tuesday at the university auditorium in Madina, Accra.
The ceremony, attended by hundreds of graduating students, highlighted the accomplishments of outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abednego F. O. Amartey, during his transformative eight-year tenure.

Prof. Amartey’s leadership saw the construction of 11 high-rise buildings, including the notable Abednego F. O. Amartey Towers—a two-block, 10-level structure featuring modern classrooms, vibrant commercial spaces, a moot court, residential facilities, and a rooftop dining area, exemplifying UPSA’s integrated and dynamic learning environment.

In his speech, Prof. Amartey reflected on the goals he set during his investiture, emphasizing the transformation of UPSA into a world-class institution.
He highlighted achievements across key focus areas: enhancing institutional effectiveness, promoting research, competing globally in higher education, and strengthening UPSA’s public image.

Prof. Amartey noted that the student population surged from 11,698 in 2016 to 22,324 by the 2023/2024 academic year, with applications nearly doubling.
He stated that UPSA has become a top choice for students in Ghana, attributing this growth to improvements in technology infrastructure and strategic partnerships with government and private institutions.

“As a matter of priority, we focused on integrating technology in the lecture halls to help students develop digital literacy, teaching them to navigate platforms, use productivity tools, collaborate online, and communicate effectively in digital environments said Prof. Abednego Amartey”
