In a speech before the Moroccan Parliament on Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron honoured King Mohammed VI’s 25-year reign.
He described him as “the embodiment of one of the oldest dynasties in the world and a symbol of industrial and technological modernity.”
Reflecting on Morocco’s deep-rooted monarchy, President Macron remarked, “Morocco, with one of the world’s oldest dynasties, is moving forward confidently, empowered by its history and energized by its young population eager to drive its development.”
President Macron praised the tolerant form of Islam promoted by His Majesty the King, Commander of the Faithful, as a “valuable asset” that “challenges extremism.”
He emphasised, “This wealth is even more precious and worthy of respect in a world torn apart by intolerance and war.”
President Macron’s address came one day after he and the King signed the Declaration on an “Enhanced Exceptional Partnership” between Morocco and France, intended to deepen collaboration on bilateral, regional, and global challenges.
The French President underscored the King’s “enlightened vision” and the accomplishments of the first 25 years of his reign, calling it “an invitation to look to the future.”
He added, “This State visit is an opportunity to open a new chapter in our long, shared history, allowing our two nations to move forward with purpose in an uncertain century that needs the strength of our friendship.”
Addressing Moroccan Parliament members, Macron noted, “You represent a people who, under the guidance of their Sovereign, have placed diversity, dialogue, and tolerance at the heart of their identity, institutions, and constitution.”
