Independent presidential candidate Kofi Koranteng has described the current Parliament as the "most useless" Ghana has ever had.
According to him, the 8th Parliament is failing to fulfil its duties to the Ghanaian people, and he believes it is not doing what it is supposed to do.
"This Parliament is the most useless Parliament because they haven’t done anything; they haven’t positioned themselves to serve Ghanaians," he said.
He further explained that their mandate is to serve and impact the populace, but they have failed to do so over time.
"Ultimately, that is what their mandate is. Tell me, how have Ghanaians benefited from this Parliament?" he argued.
Mr Koranteng was speaking about the Supreme Court's rule regarding vacant seats on Joy News’ AM Show on Wednesday, 13th November 2024.
The Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that the declaration of vacant seats by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, could not stand. The Court’s verdict was based on a 5-2 decision following the hearing of the case.
The ruling followed a suit filed by Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, against the Speaker at the Supreme Court over the declaration of vacant seats in the House.
In October, the Speaker declared four seats in the House vacant after the affected MPs announced their intention to contest the December elections as independent candidates.
