The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the transportation of ballot papers for the upcoming December 7 general elections will begin today, November 14.
In a press statement signed and issued by the Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, it said the ballot papers are being dispatched to all 16 regions under stringent security measures.
"I bring you warm greetings from the Electoral Commission and trust that this message finds you well. This is to inform you that the transportation of ballot papers to the various regions will start tomorrow, Thursday, November 14, 2024," the statement read.
The distribution, spanning five days from Thursday, November 14 to Tuesday, November 19, will commence in the Greater Accra region and conclude in the Volta and Oti regions.
This phase follows a month-long effort by the EC to finalise voter registration, allocate polling stations, and train election officers, among other preparations.
Meanwhile, the EC has announced the completion of a "robust and credible" certified final voters register for the upcoming 2024 general election.
In a formal presentation held on Wednesday, November 6, the EC provided soft copies of the certified final voters register to political parties, meeting its promised timeline for early November.
The EC’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa, underscored the Commission's commitment to ensuring transparency and accuracy in the December polls, saying, "We now have a robust and credible certified final voters register, which is fit to deliver a credible, transparent, fair, peaceful, and glorious election come December 7, 2024."
She highlighted that the timely preparation of the voter register was made possible “with the help of God” and expressed gratitude for the successful completion of this critical step in the election process.
