Some residents of Elmina in the Central Region have taken to the streets to protest a salt mining lease granted to a private developer by their traditional leaders.
These residents of Elmina massed their displeasure over the salt mining lease through the principal street.
The demonstrators, clad in red and wielding placards, are demanding accountability from their traditional leaders.
The placards had inscriptions like, "we want our salt', and 'Give us what is due us and don't sell Elmina.'

The group claims the traditional council has failed to involve the community in decisions regarding the lease of their salt mining lands.
Leader of the demonstrators, John Quayeson spoke about their concerns.
"We want our leaders to know that the salt is not for them, that is what we want them to understand.."

However, the traditional leaders of the area have dismissed the claims Nana Nkuando IV, Adontihini of the Edna Traditional Council, described the protest as a calculated effort to tarnish the image of the council.
" It's an action in nullity," he said.
