The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commended President John Mahama for his commitment to uncap the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) levy in the next government budget.
Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service over the weekend, President Mahama announced plans to uncap the NHIS levy in the upcoming budget to improve healthcare access across Ghana.
“We are determined to prioritise healthcare to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of their location or economic standing, has access to quality medical services,” he declared.

In response, the NHIA issued a statement on Monday, January 13, describing the president’s proposal as "a significant turning point in the scheme’s history." The statement further praised the NDC government for demonstrating its commitment to "strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system and ensuring sustainable funding for the NHIS."
The NHIA’s public affairs department highlighted that the government's decision is commendable and will contribute significantly to achieving universal health coverage for the country.
