The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has appointed Multimedia Journalist Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah as Assistant Registrar in charge of the Digital Communications section of the University Relations Office.
He will lead content production on all university websites and social media handles.
Mr. Debrah is a documentary filmmaker with interests in science, technology, health, art, entertainment, business and research reporting.
He has written and produced thousands of news reports, features and documentaries for radio, television and online.
Emmanuel holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, a Certificate of Proficiency in Health Systems Transformation and a Master of Public Health degree in Health Education and Promotion, all from KNUST. He also has a certificate in Mobile Journalism from the Deutsche Welle(DW) Akademie.
Mr. Debrah started his career as a medical laboratory scientist and voiceover artist in 2011 and then moved to Moonlite FM, Sunyani as an English newsreader in 2014. He was subsequently appointed as an assisting news editor at Sky Broadcasting Limited, Sunyani, in 2015.
After six months, he moved to Multimedia Group Limited as a multimedia journalist and music presenter, and was promoted to senior multimedia journalist in 2022.
In 2018, he was selected among 8 journalists in West Africa to attend the Cassava Mosaic Disease Conference in Cotonou, Benin. He is the 2019 best science reporter, and runner-up for the business, health and entertainment categories at the Ghana Journalists Association Awards, Ashanti Region.
Mr. Debrah was honoured the following year at the 19th annual awards of the Society of Environmental Journalists for his story on the impact of 12 antibiotics on the health of Ghanaians.
Mr. Debrah is a winner of the online category of the Merck Foundation Africa Media More than a Mother Fertility Awards 2021 and also the 2021 winner of the Luv FM’s People Choice Award.
He is a winner of the 2022 ICFJ/WHO Road Safety Reporting contest and received Certificates of Excellence from SAY Newsroom, Luv FM, for his medical journalism initiative and science reporting, the same year.
Mr. Debrah is the 2022 recipient of the Engineering Evangelism Award by the Ghana Institution of Engineering. In 2023, he was given a Special Recognition Award by the Ghana Science Association.
Emmanuel was again among 20 journalists in Africa selected for the Digital Public Infrastructure Journalism Fellowship in 2023.
He is also a three-time finalist in the ICT\Telecoms reporting category of the West Africa Media and Conference Awards (WAMECA) 2019, 2021 and 2022.
In 2023, he won the best ICT\Telecoms reporter in West Africa at the WAMECA for his exposé on unsolicited mobile subscriptions in Ghana and was again adjudged the Best Science and Technology Reporter in 2024 by the Ghana Journalists Association.
Currently, Debrah already holds positions as the communication officer for Africa Health Collaborative, KNUST in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, KNUST Technology Consultancy Centre and the LinkedIn editor of KNUST Office of Grants and Research, KNUST Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources, as well as KNUST School of Medical Sciences.
He is also a founding faculty member of the KNUST Health Journalism programme.
Mr. Debrah is a member of professional organisations including the Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Science Association, the National Association of Science Writers and the Society of Environmental Journalists.
Besides journalism, Mr. Debrah is the inventor of the paper prompter. He is also a poet and a singer-songwriter with the stage name, El Tov.
Mr. Debrah is married to Dr. Neta Parsram.
