Chelsea legend, Michael Essien has weighed in on the Blues’ recent struggles in the Premier League.
Chelsea, at the start of the festive season, were just two points off leaders Liverpool, but a run of five games without a win all but ended their title aspirations.
Enzo Maresca’s men are now ten points off top spot, with their focus now shifting to the race for top four.
Essien, who won two league titles with Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge has struggled to pinpoint what exactly he believes is the reason for the poor run.
“As a football man these tings happen.
“I’ll always say consistency is the only way forward, but sometimes it’s difficult to understand your dip in form,” he told Accra based Sporty FM.
“But I think they [Chelsea] are getting back slowly in the last few games, and hopefully they keep pushing,” he added.
Chelsea’s win against Wolves on Monday was their first in five games, and sent them to fourth on the Premier League table.
Essien, joined Chelsea for a then African record fee and went on to spend 14 years at the London club.
