The North East Regional Minister nominee, Ibrahim Tia, has pledged to expand healthcare access by increasing the number of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in the region.
During his vetting on Monday, January 27, Mr Tia explained the critical role of CHPS compounds in delivering primary healthcare services to rural communities.
He assured that under his leadership, efforts would be intensified to construct more CHPS facilities and upgrade existing ones to improve healthcare delivery.

“I will ensure that we build more CHPS compounds in the North East Region. Expanding access to healthcare is a priority, and we must strengthen our health infrastructure to serve our people better,” he stated.
He also highlighted plans to collaborate with district assemblies to create incentive packages for doctors and nurses, aiming to attract and retain healthcare professionals in the region.
“The challenge is not just infrastructure but also the availability of healthcare personnel," he added.
