Two hundred and seven individuals vying for the positions of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have been successfully vetted by committee led by Egypt Kobla Kudoto.

The two-week exercise saw aspirants from various districts make their case before a regional committee tasked with selecting three candidates per constituency for onward submission to the national leadership.

Among the 237 aspirants, 30 were women, each hoping to secure a nomination to lead their respective districts.

The National Democratic Congress Volta Regional Women’s Organiser, Fafa Agbai, expressed her satisfaction with the process, particularly praising the women who stepped forward for the vetting.

She described their participation as an encouraging sign of increasing female representation in local governance.

Chairman of the vetting committee, Egypt Kobla Kudoto, provided a detailed overview of the process, noting that the committee had initially received over 279 applications. However, by the close of the vetting, 237 aspirants had successfully appeared before the panel.

"We started this exercise a little over a week ago, and today, being the very last day, we hosted three constituencies—Keta, Anloga, and Akatsi North. Out of the 237 who faced the committee, 30 were women, and the remaining 207 were men who are giants in the party. Clearly, the interest in serving our local communities is very high," he stated.

The Volta region has 18 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), meaning only 18 nominees will be selected from the pool of 237 aspirants.

Mr Kudotor explained that the committee’s role was to recommend three candidates per assembly, after which the final selection would be made by the national leadership.

"As a region, we have completed our assignment. We wish to thank all our comrades and party members who participated in this process. It is their vision for their communities that brought them forward for vetting, and we can only wish them well," he added.

Several aspirants shared their ambitions and visions for their respective districts, promising to bring development and transformation if given the nod.

Wisdom Seade, who is vying for the Keta Municipal Chief Executive position, pledged to bring massive development and change the fortunes of Keta.

Joseph Agbeko Kpogo, an aspirant for the Anloga MCE seat, highlighted his contributions to the district and expressed his desire to continue his service at a higher level.

King David, who is contesting for the Akatsi North position, also promised to drive development initiatives in the district.

Some female aspirants also emphasised their readiness to bring change to their districts, stating that their leadership would introduce fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to local governance challenges.

With the vetting process now complete, the selected candidates will await the final decision from the national leadership. The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, will coordinate activities to ensure the best candidates are chosen to lead the assemblies.

The NDC leadership in the region remains optimistic that the new MMDCEs will work towards advancing development in the Volta Region, reinforcing the party’s commitment to grassroots governance and community growth.
