A one-week memorial service for the late Teddy Osei, renowned trumpeter and key member of the iconic band Osibisa, was held in Kyiriapatre, a community in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Teddy Osei, whose musical ingenuity transcended genres by blending jazz, rock, and traditional African music, was a pivotal figure in the global music scene, especially during the 1970s.
His contributions to Afrobeat and world music continue to inspire.
Born in Kyiriapatre, Teddy Osei was instrumental in the formation of Osibisa, the internationally acclaimed band.
He passed away at the age of 88 in the United Kingdom after a brief illness, leaving behind three children.
His passing marks the end of an era for Osibisa, as he was the last surviving member of the three founding members of the band, following the death of Sol Armafio and Mark Tontoh.
According to his family, his remains will arrive in Accra on April 3, alongside that of his elder brother, Tony Suadwa, who passed away at age 93 in the UK.
They will proceed to Kyiriapatre for his final internment.
Teddy Osei's legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of his family, fans, and the music world.
