Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, has expressed his surprise at the events that unfolded last Thursday while he was chairing the day's vetting proceedings.
Speaking to the committee set up to investigate the chaos on Wednesday, February 5, Mr Ahiafor said, "I was so much surprised by the incident of that day; I was just sitting there, watching them."
He explained that his attempts to calm the situation were unsuccessful, and he was unable to prevent further disruptions.
Mr Ahiafor, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, urged the committee to review the available footage to better understand his perspective on the chaos.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the chaos after he suspended four MPs.
The disruption arose from a disagreement between the minority and majority over the further vetting of ministerial nominees, which escalated into a physical altercation, damaging tables and microphones.
The Speaker of Parliament subsequently lifted the suspension on the four MPs after a plea by leaders pf both sides, but says the investigative committee will continue with its work.
