The National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in Ejura Sekyeredumasi Constituency are calling on President John Mahama to appoint their MP to one of the remaining deputy ministerial positions.

This move, according to the NDC supporters is a way to console the party's grassroots, who are reportedly disappointed.

According to Sadiku Katadatu, the constituency research officer, appointing their MP, Muhammad Bawah Braimah, would make it easier for the party to campaign in the area for the next elections.

The constituency is deemed the second largest stronghold of the NDC in the Ashanti region, after Asawase, and has been loyal to the party since 1992.

"It is important to indicate that we take so much pride in the fact that the NDC has won all the nine organised presidential elections with huge margins from 1992 to 2024," said Sadiku.

He noted that although the party lost a parliamentary election to the NPP in 2012, the constituency has consistently shown strong support for the NDC.

In the recent election, the constituency gave President Mahama and the NDC over 30,000 votes, making it the second-highest vote count in the region - a trend that has held steady over time.

"We are very frustrated, desperate and melancholic as a people, especially when all our neighbouring constituencies have been rewarded with ministerial appointments either under the NDC or the NPP regime.

"We are discriminatory the only constituency that has never been rewarded in that regard by the party we hold very dear to our hearts. Where have we gone wrong as a people? Where lies our loyalty to the NDC?" he quizzed.

Sadiku expressed his disappointment and humiliation on behalf of the MP and the people of the constituency.

According to him, the MP has made immense efforts to support the party in the constituency, and it's disheartening to see those efforts go unrecognised.

"We the youth are saying here and now that, we cannot tolerate this kind of treatment anymore. The presidency and the national party should realise that Mr Bawa and his supporters suffered severely in the hands of the NPP in the last eight years and the time for the reward is now," he stated.
