A member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has emphasised the need for a comprehensive audit of corruption-related cases submitted to President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, 10th February.
According to him, a significant portion of these cases requires further scrutiny to determine the extent of procurement breaches and financial irregularities.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM on Tuesday, 11th February, Mr Domelevo highlighted the importance of conducting independent audits before drawing conclusions.
“The bulk of it needs auditing to establish which cases had procurement breaches and which were not in line with the laws of Ghana,” he explained.
He noted that while the cases were compiled based on credible reports, proper financial assessments must be conducted to establish wrongdoing.
The ORAL team, after extensive research and information gathering, compiled a report documenting over 2,417 cases of alleged corruption spanning various sectors.
However, Mr Domelevo clarified that the team does not have the authority to investigate these matters independently.
“We don’t have a mandate to investigate. Ours was to collect information,” he stated, stressing that ORAL's role was strictly limited to assembling evidence for further examination.
He further called for forensic audits by the appropriate state agencies to verify procurement infractions before any legal action is taken.
He underscored the need for impartial investigations, ensuring that those found culpable are held accountable through due legal processes.
