A 24-year-old galamsey operator alleged to have raped a 56-year-old woman in her room has been remanded into police custody by the Tarkwa District Magistrate Court One.
Vitus Nsore's plea was not taken and he is to be in court on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Police Sergeant Douglas Addae, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Charles Owusu Nsiah that the complainant, was a farmer and lived at Amoanda with Nsore.
He said on February 9, this year, around 0100 hours, the complainant was asleep in her room, but the entire community did not have electricity and was plunged into darkness due to a heavy rainstorm.
He said Nsore took advantage of the blackout, went into the complainant’s room quietly and violently attacked her.
He then subjected her to torture and beatings, covered her mouth with his hand and forcibly had unprotected sex with her.
Sergeant Addae said after Nsore had satisfied himself, for fear of being exposed, he decided to kill the complainant, locked her up in the room and told her he was going home to bring his knife.
The prosecution said the complainant, who was weak and helpless managed to escape through the window and started screaming for help.
He said one Anthony Kwofie and the complainant’s children went to her aid and combed around the area in search of the accused person but to no avail.
Nsore was later arrested by the complainant’s children with the assistance of some concerned citizens of Amoanda and they dragged him to the Huni-Valley police station where the complainant reported the matter and he was re-arrested and detained.
The prosecutor said the accused person was subsequently escorted to the Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) Office for investigation.
The complainant was issued with a medical form to attend the hospital for treatment and report, and she returned the form to the police endorsed by a medical officer at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital.
