Two persons who stabbed a 24-year-old man with a pair of scissors and stole his mobile phone and a cash of GH¢1,900 have been sentenced in Tarkwa by the District Court Two.
Gilbert Mensah, 24, would serve two years in prison while his counterpart, Justice Mensah,18, was handed 12 months’ imprisonment.
The convicts are both unemployed and pleaded guilty to stealing and causing harm.
Prosecuting, Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh told the court presided over by Mr Isaac Osei Asare that the complainant, Kwame Batie, resided at Ndadieso, a suburb of Aboso, while Gilbert and Justice lived at Aboso, both in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality.
He said on April 24, 2025, at about 1200 hours, the complainant went to “Kofi’s guest house” in Aboso to purchase food, and while waiting to be served, the convicts approached him and alleged that on the previous day, Justice was drunk and the complainant took a video of him with his mobile phone.
Sergeant Assan-Donkoh explained that the complainant rejected the accusation, but Gilbert dipped his hand into the complainant’s pocket and removed an amount of GH¢1,900.
He said after a while, Gilbert pulled out a pair of scissors from his pocket and ordered the complainant to surrender his Techno Pop 30 Mobile phone valued at GH¢1,800, else he would stab him.
The prosecutor said that when the complainant resisted, Gilbert became annoyed and stabbed the back of the complainant’s head with the pair of scissors, took his mobile phone and left when they realised he was bleeding profusely.
According to Sergeant Assan-Donkoh, a stranger who chanced on the complainant helped him to the police station where he made an official complaint and was given a medical form to visit the health facility for treatment and report.
He informed the court that Gilbert and Justice were smoked out from their hideout by the police, but during the investigation, they failed to aid the police in retrieving the complainant’s cash and mobile phone.
