The staff of the Volta River Authority and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (VRA-NEDCo) have strongly rejected the alleged appointment of Jonathan Abdallah Salifu as the new Corporate Communications Manager of NEDCo.
In a statement released on Monday, March 3, 2025, the staff described the appointment as illegal and against NEDCo’s recruitment policies. They argued that such a position has never been filled through political influence and urged the government to respect the company’s governance structure.
According to the staff, Mr. Salifu announced his appointment on Dreamz FM, a Bolgatanga-based radio station, on February 26, 2025. However, they insist that no official appointment has been made and that the process must follow due procedures.
The employees emphasized that the current Corporate Communications Manager has worked at NEDCo for 20 years, rising through the ranks on merit. They believe that bypassing him with a political appointee undermines professionalism and morale within the company.
Citing a Supreme Court ruling, the staff clarified that public service appointments do not include positions at NEDCo, which is a limited liability company owned by VRA. They stressed that managerial roles should be filled according to company laws and not political directives.
“This decision sets a dangerous precedent and weakens the professional standards that have guided our organization,” the statement read.
The staff have called on the government to avoid political interference in NEDCo’s affairs and ensure that appointments follow the proper legal processes. The staff of the Volta River Authority and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (VRA-NEDCo) have strongly rejected the alleged appointment of Jonathan Abdallah Salifu as the new Corporate Communications Manager of NEDCo.
