President John Mahama has appointed Apau Wiredu Lateef as the Deputy CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), reinforcing his administration’s commitment to industrialisation, job creation, and economic growth.

The Ghana Free Zones Authority, established under the Free Zone Act, 1995 (Act 504), is responsible for creating and regulating free zones to drive economic development.

Mr. Apau Wiredu’s appointment aligns with the government’s broader economic diplomacy agenda, ensuring that Ghana remains a competitive hub for trade and investment.

A seasoned Economic Policy Analyst, Mr. Apau Wiredu holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Professional Studies and a Master of Arts in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.

Additionally, he has a Fellowship Certificate in Natural Resource Management on Sustainable Development from the Danida Fellowship Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Beyond his academic and professional credentials, Mr. Apau Wiredu played a pivotal role in the 2024 Presidential Campaign Secretariat in Kumasi.

He has also held multiple leadership positions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His business acumen extends to agribusiness, export, and mining, positioning him as a valuable asset in advancing Ghana’s free zones initiative.

The Ghana Free Zones Authority is governed by a nine-member board, chaired by the Minister of Trade and Industry.

With Mr. Apau Wiredu’s appointment, the Authority is expected to intensify efforts in attracting foreign direct investment, expanding export-oriented industries, and creating sustainable employment opportunities.
