President John Dramani Mahama, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has made key changes in the military leadership.
He has appointed new Acting Service Chiefs, pending consultation with the Council of State.
The appointments, which take effect from 24th March 2025, are expected to strengthen the operational efficiency of the Armed Forces.
The newly appointed officers include Brigadier General William Agyapong as Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu as Acting Chief of Army Staff, and Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing as Acting Chief of Naval Staff.
Others are Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong, who takes over as Acting Chief of Air Staff, and Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, who assumes the role of Acting Chief of Staff.
These appointments signal the President’s commitment to ensuring a strong and effective military command.
Earlier today, President Mahama met with the outgoing Service Chiefs at the Flagstaff House. The meeting was led by the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah.
During the engagement, the President expressed his appreciation for their dedicated service to the nation and their contributions to national security.
He further assured them that their expertise and experience would remain valuable to his administration as Ghana seeks to enhance its defence and security operations.
The changes in military leadership come at a crucial time, as the government aims to strengthen the Armed Forces in response to emerging security challenges.
