Asante Kotoko will be aiming to return to the top of the Ghana Premier League table when they host struggling Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors dropped to second place after a goalless draw against newly promoted Young Apostles in midweek.
That result saw Bibiani GoldStars leapfrog them to the top of the League table following their win over Basake Holy Stars.
Kotoko had also shared the spoils with Samartex 1996 last weekend, with Kwame Opoku’s crucial strike salvaging a point against the defending champions.
Despite these setbacks, Kotoko remains unbeaten in their last four league matches since suffering a 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman in February.
Meanwhile, Basake Holy Stars are enduring a difficult run, failing to win any of their last six league games.
They have lost three and drawn three, conceding eight goals while managing just three in return.
Their last victory came in December when they thrashed Bechem United 3-0 on matchday 15.
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Kotoko took the lead in the first half, but Prince Tweneboah’s 82nd-minute equalizer rescued a point for Basake Holy Stars.
A win for Kotoko on Sunday would see them reclaim the top spot, provided Bibiani Gold Stars drop points against Hearts of Oak.
However, Basake Holy Stars, currently 13th with 24 points—just three ahead of the relegation zone—will be desperate for an upset to boost their survival hopes.
Kickoff is at 3 PM.
