Government has significantly increased direct funding to District Assemblies following the uncapping of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), ensuring that more resources are available for local development and governance at the grassroots level.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson announced this during a meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Benin, and Togo, Simone Giger, where he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fiscal decentralisation.

He disclosed that, in line with the 2025 Budget, Parliament has approved a new DACF formula, directing 88% of the allocation straight to District Assemblies.
As part of this effort, the government has also allocated funds to pay Assembly Members, recognising their critical role in local governance and community development.
This marks a major step in strengthening Ghana’s decentralisation agenda, ensuring that local leaders have the resources needed to serve their communities effectively.

Dr Forson emphasised that these measures will enhance service delivery at the district level and accelerate local development.
He also commended Switzerland for its continued support of Ghana’s decentralisation efforts and welcomed further collaboration to strengthen fiscal accountability and governance.
