Ghanaian players across Europe are proving pivotal for their clubs, with some pushing for titles and others battling relegation.
Here’s a roundup of the key performers from the weekend.
Premier League
Thomas Partey once again demonstrated why he is the heartbeat of the Arsenal team, finishing off a lightning-quick counterattack to score the opener—his fourth league goal—in their 1-1 draw against Brentford.
However, the 31-year-old was substituted in the 69th minute due to injury concerns, taken off as a precaution ahead of Wednesday’s season-defining clash against Real Madrid.
Partey was asked about Arsenal’s approach to the upcoming game and said they would play to win at the intimidating Bernabéu.
“I think we've experienced this many times when we play here [at the Emirates] and I think it's not going to be something different,” Partey stated.
“We all know what we have to do. We have to go there with the mentality to win. We want to win every game.”
Despite Liverpool leaving it late to beat West Ham 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday, Mohammed Kudus delivered one of his best performances of the season.
However, the 24-year-old is yet to score for the Hammers in his last 15 games, a drought stretching over three months.
LaLiga
Iñaki Williams came off the bench to help Athletic Club secure a 3-1 comeback win over Rayo Vallecano at San Mamés on Sunday.
French Ligue 1
Full-back Gideon Mensah lasted 71 minutes for AJ Auxerre in their 3-1 loss to Lyon, while André Ayew was subbed off after the hour mark in Le Havre’s 5-1 defeat to Rennes.
Turkish Super Lig
Former Levante striker Emmanuel Boateng scored his third goal in five starts for Gaziantep in a 2-1 win over Hatayspor on Sunday.
Danish Superliga
Midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi was on target again for Nordsjaelland in their 5-2 win over Randers in the Championship playoff.
The 19-year-old now has two goals in 11 games since making his debut earlier this year.
Eighteen-year-old Stephen Acquah scored his first professional goal for Nordsjaelland in the same game—only his second appearance for the club.
