President John Dramani Mahama has taken action against government appointees who failed to meet the March 31 deadline for asset declaration.
The president has ordered that the said officers forfeit three months of their salary and donate the amount to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
Already, all appointees of the government were to commit one month of their salary to the health initiative. This punitive action means that such appointees will now lose four months of their salaries.
The announcement was made by the Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, via a Facebook post on Monday, May 5.
He further warned that defaulters have until the close of the following day to comply or face immediate dismissal.
“President Mahama sanctions appointees who defaulted on asset declaration by 31st March. They are to forfeit 4 months' salary and donate the same to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu posted.
“All defaulters have up to the close of day tomorrow to declare their assets, or they stand automatically dismissed," he added.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) is an initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to individuals living with chronic diseases across the country.
