In a spirited observance of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025, Groomdatgirl, in partnership with the Terry Yegbe Foundation, organized a community-focused outreach at Horti EP Primary School under the global theme “Together for a Period-Friendly World.”

The initiative brought together pupils, educators, local leaders, and health professionals in a unified effort to promote menstrual hygiene awareness, foster inclusivity, and dismantle the stigma that often surrounds menstruation.

Promoting Confidence and Hygiene Through Education

Delivering the main health session was Delphine Gomado, a Physician Assistant and native of Horti, who engaged the students in an interactive session on personal hygiene.

She demonstrated the proper use and safe disposal of sanitary pads—a presentation that sparked curiosity and active participation, especially among the female students.

Her session encouraged open dialogue, creating a safe space where pupils asked questions and shared experiences—an important step toward normalizing conversations about menstrual health.

Creating Supportive School Environments

Headteacher Mr. Kplorm Dorvlo, in his welcome remarks, commended the organizers for bringing such a crucial initiative to the school.

He urged male students to support their female classmates during menstruation, emphasizing that empathy and understanding are key to building a compassionate and inclusive learning environment.

Hometown Pride and Purposeful Giving Back

Miss Tilda Elinam Acorlor, Team Lead for Groomdatgirl and a proud daughter of Horti, expressed her deep motivation for organizing the event in her hometown.

A respected sports broadcaster, she highlighted the school’s recent gold medal win in tennis at the Inter-District School Festival in Hohoe—an achievement that resonated with her professionally and personally.

“Menstruation is a natural part of life,” she told the girls. “It’s essential that we learn to understand it and manage it with pride and confidence.”

Community Engagement and Lifelong Impact

Representing the Terry Yegbe Foundation, Mr. Eric Ahiabu spoke about the vision of the foundation’s founder, Terry Yegbe, a native of Akatsi and former footballer with Akatsi Kickers FC.

He noted that the foundation is committed to empowering young people through education and community engagement.

He expressed hope that both boys and girls would benefit from the knowledge shared and use it to foster a more informed and supportive society.

The event also drew participation from the Gender Officer of the Akatsi South District Education Directorate and several community elders, all of whom praised the initiative and called for its replication in other schools across the district.

Creative Expression and Community Support

The day ended on a vibrant note with students showcasing their creativity through dramatic performances and poetry recitations centered on menstrual health and hygiene.

Participants were presented with sanitary pads and refreshments, reinforcing the message that menstrual products should be accessible to all.

This impactful event was made possible through the generous support of The Freeemo Foundation, Dr. Harrison Kofi Berlley, and businessman Mr. Francis Aba.

The celebration at Horti EP Primary stands as a significant step in promoting menstrual health education and ending period stigma, paving the way for a healthier and more inclusive future for all.
