Programme Officer at the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), Samuel Harrison Cudjoe, has issued a passionate appeal to every Ghanaian to take an active and unwavering role in the recovery of stolen public assets.
Speaking on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show, Mr. Cudjoe emphasised that asset recovery should not be viewed as the sole responsibility of government agencies but rather as a collective duty shared by all citizens.
“Citizens must care about asset recovery because the assets that are recovered belong to them,” he asserted emphatically.
“It could be public funds recovered for our use, or it could be your property that has been illegally taken over by someone else. Therefore, citizens ought to be interested in asset recovery because what is recovered belongs to them. This is one of the key benefits of retrieving stolen assets.”
Mr. Cudjoe also highlighted the damaging effects of corruption and crime, noting that perpetrators often enjoy unlawful tangible and intangible benefits at the expense of the nation.
“If someone engages in crime, corruption, or any other illegal activity, they gain some form of tangible and intangible benefit. We must reclaim these benefits for the good of the country. So yes, citizens have to be interested in asset recovery because these assets rightfully belong to them.”
He believes that only through a shared sense of ownership and responsibility can stolen assets be restored and effectively utilised to drive the nation’s sustainable development.
