The 10th edition of the Ghana Amateur Ladies Open Golf Tournament officially teed off on Thursday, July 10, at the Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema.
Last year’s edition was hosted at the Sakumono Golf Course, where Tanzanian golfer Iddy Hussein Madina emerged as champion.
This year’s competition features participants from six African countries: Nigeria, Togo, Gabon, Tanzania, Benin, and host nation Ghana.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, National Coordinator for the Ghana Golf Association, Leticia Amponsah Mensah, highlighted the importance of the tournament for the development and exposure of female golfers across the continent.
“In this event, a lot of ladies are invited from all over Africa to come and showcase their golf skills,” she said.

She also emphasised the tournament’s role in contributing to players' rankings on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) system.
“This event is rated as a WAGR event, so the better you play, the higher your chances of being entered into the WAGR system,” she explained.
“The WAGR system is very important to golfers because it’s where we are officially rated.”
The three-day event runs from Thursday, July 10, to Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Centre of the World Golf Club.
