Two individuals accused of extortion and impersonating members of the Ghana Gold Board Taskforce have been arrested in the Western region.
The suspects; Foster Delord, 40, and Prince Worvi, 38, were arrested by the Western Central Regional Police Command following a formal complaint that they had been visiting various gold dealers while falsely presenting themselves as officials of the Gold Board.
In a statement shared on Facebook by the Ghana Police Service, both men reportedly claimed to be ex-military officers.
Police investigations led to the recovery of several incriminating items, including a pair of handcuffs, a canister of pepper spray, a taser, a set of uniforms, and a cash amount of GH¢500.
The accused were arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court and have since been remanded into police custody while further investigations are underway.
The Regional Police Command urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming to represent government agencies.
