The Energy Commission has paid tribute to the eight who perished in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash, observing a minute of silence during the ongoing Renewable Energy Challenge.
The fatal incident occurred when the helicopter, carrying senior officials including Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Mohammed Murtala, and NADMO’s Acting Deputy Director-General for Operations, Samuel Aboagye, went down in a forested area while en route to Obuasi.
The delegation was on its way to launch a major national initiative against illegal mining, known as galamsey.
Rescue teams later recovered all eight bodies from the crash site, with investigations underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
In his remarks at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission described the victims as dedicated public servants whose work and sacrifice should inspire national unity.
The solemn tribute at the Renewable Energy Challenge reflected the grief of a nation still coming to terms with the loss.
